Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required, with computer and software proficiency

Job Duties

  • Serve as the point of first contact for visitors to the School of Communications by greeting those who come to the office and answering the phone.
  • Provide administrative support for the deans, chairs, faculty and staff.
  • Schedule appointments for staff persons located in the student affairs office of McEwen (internship director, the director of student engagement and alumni affairs, and three Student Professional Development Center staff members assigned to communications).
  • Assist faculty and staff with instructional supplies, copying and issues.
  • Monitor and order office supplies and promotional materials.
  • Serve as the McEwen building manager and coordinate with facilities management and IT to resolve maintenance issues.
  • Schedule McEwen meeting spaces.
  • Work with Admissions on prospective student visitors and special events such as Fellows Weekend.
  • Lead all aspects of event planning for School of Communications events.
  • Support student affairs, development and industry partnerships through accessing and updating relevant databases.
  • Provide support for the Student Media Board and take minutes at the monthly meetings.
  • Provide support for the Dean’s Student Advisory Board.
  • Serve as backup to the administrative team in the dean’s office, providing logistical and administrative support as needed.
  • Willingness to advise the Unity in Communications student organization is a plus.
  • Manage travel itineraries for campus visitors, including booking flights, hotels, and rentals.
  • Support School of Communications centers and grant-funded programs (including, but not limited to, the North Carolina Open Government Coalition and the Emerging Journalists Program) and Other duties as assigned.

Assistant Director - Admissions

Admissions
Recruits prospective first-year students, with particular emphasis on those from assigned territory, through the preparation and execution of independent travel, including visits to high schools, college fairs, and individual student and family meetings. Manages the application review and decision-making process for territory and communicates with high school constituents as appropriate. Conducts information sessions in support of the campus visit program and meets with visiting students and parents as necessary. Responsible for conducting yield outreach to students and families, including but not limited to the hosting of events, meetings on and off campus, and phone and email campaigns. Responds to written, phone, email, and in-person inquiries.

Financial Aid Customer Service Specialist

This position serves as a primary customer service representative for the Office of Financial Aid. Primary duties will be the monitoring of the department email and fax accounts, answering telephones, working with students and parents in the front office and scanning, indexing, and maintaining the document imaging system.
