Position Summary

The Weekend Library Specialist will provide reference, technical and circulation services to students, faculty, staff, and the general public for approximately 14 hours per weekend.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Associates degree with customer service experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's in Library Science degree desired or in process; an appropriate combination of education and experience may be substituted.
1-2 years of library experience desired.

Required Other Training, Certifications, or Licensing

 

Job Duties

  • Answers directional, technical and basic reference questions at the Public Services Desk from Elon students, faculty, staff, and the general public. Refers complex research questions to the appropriate librarian.
  • Provides and supervises customer service at the Public Services Desk in the absence of full-time staff.
  • Maintains building order and security, reporting any unsafe conditions, equipment, or situations to library administration and campus security.
  • Provides basic troubleshooting for library equipment such as copiers, printers, computers, etc.
  • Acts as the sole person in charge Friday evenings and weekend mornings, maintaining all services and monitoring library student staff.
  • Initiates and maintains effective communication with supervisor, Library Dean, and other library staff.
  • Provides oversight and assistance to library student staff at the Public Services Desk.
  • Works collegially with building and campus partners.
  • Participates in occasional meetings of the library staff.
  • Participates in appropriate workshops, seminars, and other professional development opportunities to improve skills and knowledge
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Special Instructions to Applicants: Schedule during the academic year will include working every other Friday evening 4-9, and either 9-3 or 3-9 Saturdays, and 10-3 or 3-8 on Sundays. Schedule will be modified during summers and academic breaks.
