Position Summary

The Program Coordinator for First-Generation Student Success is a time-limited position that supports the implementation of programs that empower, supports, and celebrates first-generation students academically, socially, and professionally. This position will collaborate with the Assistant Director of First-Generation Student Success to plan and implement student-centered programming, support the First Phoenix Living Learning Community, pilot new areas of work, and maintain connections to campus resources and opportunities.

The coordinator will be a visible and approachable resource for students while helping to advance first-generation student success across campus.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree Required.
• Deep understanding of first-generation college student experiences, and access and equity issues in higher education.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including cultural fluency.
• Demonstrated ability to co-design, implement, and assess student programs and support models.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree
• Ability to use data to identify gaps and improve student-success outcomes
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with students, faculty, and staff
• Experience advising, mentoring, or guiding young learners
• Experience providing individualized student support or case management

Job Duties

• Student Engagement and Program Development
  • Co-lead the planning, implementation, and assessment of programs that strengthen belonging and community among first-generation students.
  • Co-support community-building initiatives, including First-Gen Lunches, Community Dinners, and other on- and off-campus engagement opportunities.
  • Assist with signature programs and events, including the First-Generation Celebration Series, Relationship Rich Expo, and annual First-Generation Stole Ceremony.
  • Contribute to partnership recruitment, logistical planning, communications, event execution, and post-event engagement and assessment.
  • Build meaningful relationships with first-generation students and connect them with relevant campus resources, opportunities, and services.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director to identify programmatic gaps and recommend enhancements or new initiatives.
• First Phoenix Living Learning Community
  • Serve as a third advisor and collaborative program partner for the First Phoenix Living Learning Community.
  • Conduct individual and group check-ins with students during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Participate in LLC events, traditions, and community-building opportunities.
  • Co-support the development and implementation of social, educational, and professional-development programming, including Career Connection pathways.
  • Refer students to appropriate campus resources and services in partnership with the LLC advising team.
• Strategic Initiatives and Assessment
  • Assist with collecting, organizing, and analyzing data to evaluate program effectiveness and inform future programming.
  • Contribute to the assessment of student-engagement initiatives and signature events.
  • Co-support pilot initiatives and emerging areas of work that advance first-generation student success.
  • Document outcomes, student feedback, and recommendations for program improvement.
• Campus Partnerships and Center Engagement
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with campus partners to expand opportunities and support for first-generation students.
  • Co-support partnership recruitment and engagement for the Relationship Rich Expo and other initiatives.
  • Represent First-Generation Student Success at institutional events, meetings, and programs, as assigned.
  • Participate in Center for Access and Success staff meetings, retreats, workdays, events, and collaborative projects, as assigned.
• Inclusive Community Building
  • Integrate inclusive-excellence practices into student engagement, advising, program development, and assessment.
  • Help create welcoming and accessible experiences that honor the varied identities, backgrounds, and lived experiences of first-generation students.
  • Identify and help address barriers to student participation, belonging, and access to institutional resources.
  • Participate in relevant Center or University learning opportunities related to inclusive excellence.
