Position Summary

The Department of History and Geography (which includes Art History) in the Elon College of Arts & Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin mid-August 2027. The position is open in terms of geographic scope, time period, and thematic expertise; however, we are particularly interested in applicants whose work is focused on the visual and material culture of the Global South (regions of Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Latin America) or Native American and Indigenous Studies (NAIS). The successful applicant will have a PhD at the time of appointment.

This position requires teaching introductory and upper-level courses in the discipline of the applicant’s expertise as well as courses in the Museum Studies and Public History minor and the Elon Core Curriculum. We expect that course offerings will also contribute in meaningful ways to Elon’s interdisciplinary programs, such as International and Global Studies or Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies, or with regional studies minors such as African and African American Studies, Latin American Studies, or Asian Studies. Additional responsibilities include student mentorship through advising and undergraduate research, and contributions to the life of the department, university, and discipline or profession.
