Title: Dispatcher (Nightshift)

Position Type: Staff Full-Time

Days Per Week: Monday - Sunday

Hours Per Week: Rotating 12-hour shifts

Position Summary

Work involves receiving emergency and non-emergency calls, monitor alarms, monitor video surveillance systems, obtaining and relaying information, prioritizing calls for service, prioritizing alarm response and coordinating response procedures, dispatching appropriate public safety personnel, and maintaining public safety communications logs and databases. Employees are responsible for operating a host of complex telecommunications and computer equipment to include multi-line phones systems, multi-channel police consoles, two-way radios, emergency alert notification systems, video surveillance systems, and Division of Criminal Information (DCI) Terminals.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

One year of college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to other employees of the college.

 

Job Duties

  • Answer all incoming radio transmissions and phone calls in a professional manner. Communicate with officers in the field using radio and phone systems. Make referrals and notifications in accordance with the Department’s policies, procedures, and supervisory directives. Follow guidelines in an emergency. Document information in records management systems as appropriate. Run sensitive and personal information through data systems attached to Federal and State information systems.
  • Operate alarm systems and provide services to numerous locations on campus. Respond appropriately to fire, trouble, panic, and other alarms.
  • Provides information services for students, visitors, faculty, and staff.
  • Monitor department and campus cameras for unusual or suspicious activity.
  • Send and receive messages through campus emergency alert system and safety app to keep members of the community safe and informed during emergencies and/or requests for assistance.
  • Work shifts involving days, nights, weekends, holidays, special events and be subject to call back.
