Position Summary
The Assistant Director supports the work of National Campus Programs which is housed under University Advancement and External Affairs. This position helps support the Boldly Elon strategic plan.
This position is based in Charlotte, NC at 330 W. Tremont Ave at the Elon University Charlotte Campus and reports to the Director of Elon Charlotte.
Evening and weekend work required. Training in Elon’s Student Life policies and protocols including Title IX, inclusive excellence, student conduct, and wellness will be required. CPR training will be required within three months of starting. Position is fully in person; remote work is not available.
Responsibilities include serving as the primary contact and support person for students enrolled in undergraduate academic programs. Elon Charlotte offers year-round undergraduate programs. With a focus on experiential learning, students are immersed in a mix of coursework, co-curricular activities, alumni and professional networking, and experiential learning during their time in Charlotte.
This position will begin Monday, August 10, 2026.

Minimum Required Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree required.
Residence Life and/or Student Life experience at the high school or college level. Must be responsible, proactive, forward-thinking, collaborative and organized. Should have a genuine interest in Residence Life and Student Life work.
Preferred Education and Experience
Experience with experiential and co-horted learning models such as study abroad or youth camps or other student-focused advising experiences. Event planning experience, program management experience, a data-driven mindset, and passion for building relationships is a plus. Someone who enjoys collaborative group work but can also work and stay focused independently. Prior experience with on-campus partners including academics and admissions, as well as off-campus partner organizations and demonstrates an ability to think strategically, take initiative, and act collaboratively.
Elon alumni who have participated in a Study USA program as a student is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work in Canva, Adobe Software, high proficiency with Office suite and other software is a plus. Knowledge of and interest in the latest related technology including social networking platforms. Training in mental health, first aid, leadership, or mediation desired. Comfortable living in and navigating an urban environment.
Job Duties
- YEAR-ROUND ACADEMIC PROGRAMS
- Communicate with providers and manage all logistical aspects of programming and course-related excursions (ex: confirm reservations, buy tickets, coordinate travel, etc.).
- Attend and actively engage with students at all planned enrichment activities including community service events, wellness events, professional development events, events with alumni, sporting events, cultural events (festivals, museums) and social events (block parties, movies in the park, trivia nights).
- Communicate with students weekly through emails and Flare messages about the schedule of events including any changes and things they need to know beforehand i.e. clear bag policies.
- Assist with move in and move out including greeting parents and helping students get acclimated to the housing and surrounding area (dining hall, gym, library, grocery store). Work with Residence Life to conduct room inspections before move-in and after move out.
- Support Study USA students who arrive to Charlotte without an internship; partner with the Assistant Director of Career Services for Study USA on a plan to best support these students in obtaining an internship.
- Communicate with Study USA and the respective Elon internship director if a concern or issue arises with a student’s internship.
- Help professors with class travel and visits to local sites with students. Help arrange travel, buy tickets, etc.
- Support Elon Charlotte director and/or other program leads with planning annual end-of-program capstone events.
- Help students check-out loaner laptops as needed
- STUDENT LIFE
- Serve as primary contact for student concerns and well-being for students year-round.
- Coordinate with the Office of Student Care and Outreach to address student care and conduct issues. Refer students to appropriate resources to manage health and wellbeing. Fill out Student Care Referral form when necessary.
- Work with Residence Life to assign students to rooms while considering accommodations and distribute roommate agreements.
- Encourage students to connect with Residence Life to ameliorate roommate issues and handle maintenance issues.
- Make Residence Life aware of all program dates for room key distribution and collection and turnover cleaning.
- Follow Elon protocol and know who to contact when (training will be provided).
- CAMPUS PARTNERS & ALUMNI
- In partnership with the Office of Alumni Engagement, help coordinate events for students and alumni to meet each other, including the annual summer Elon in the Ballpark event and Elon Day College Coffee.
- Support student professional development by co-facilitating two to three Lunch ‘n Learns with alumni each semester.
- Facilitate the Take an Alum to Coffee gift card program.
- Support admissions staff if local high school students shadow undergraduate classes.
- Attend the Evening for Elon event, Welcome to the City event, and Elon Day to build relationships with alumni.
- Visit internship sites with SPDC staff members and/or director of Elon Charlotte to meet interns’ supervisors and help strengthen the Elon brand. Invite site supervisors to campus events.
- Share industry contacts with the SPDC’S CER team; share internships for them to post on EJN.
- Keep track of all events with alumni and record the number and names of alumni that attended each event. Share with alumni@elon.edu at the end of each semester.
- Work with the Kernodle Center to add student volunteer hours to Phoenix Serve
- Provide support for National Campus Programs (NCP) initiatives working closely with the director of NCP and director of Elon Charlotte
- Help cover the front desk when program assistant is out of the office
- COMMUNICATIONS, MARKETING, & PUBLIC RELATIONS
- Submit two to three articles on Today at Elon each semester that highlight program activities, student internships, alumni events, class projects and other interesting aspects of the programs.
- Share videos and photos every two weeks with the Global Education Center to post on the Elon global Instagram account to promote Study USA Charlotte. Posting on your personal LinkedIn account to promote programs is also encouraged.
- Add all videos, photos, and quotes to Elon Charlotte Teams folder.
