Position Summary

This is a non-exempt full-time position. The primary purpose of this position is that the individual will work as part of a coordinated team effort to mow and maintain the turfgrass around the landscaping and grounds on the Elon University campus. This position is essential to the overall aesthetics that has been established at Elon University.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED with other experience

Preferred Education and Experience

Associate degree, or vocational or technical school degree in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or related field

Required Other Training, Certifications, or Licensing

Must possess a valid NC Driver’s license and be insurable by the University carrier.

Job Duties

  • The primary objective is the mowing of the campus grounds and other related property that has to be maintained by our staff. Dependent on experience or training individuals will make up one or two groups that are assigned areas that are their responsibility to be mowed. This also includes trimming, edging, blowing off of walks and roads, and litter pickup responsibilities.
  • The operation and maintenance of the equipment is essential to our success as a department. Groundskeepers need to demonstrate the ability to look, listen, and feel if a piece of equipment they are operating is functioning properly. Daily preventative maintenance by operators will ensure for the care of their equipment. If there is a problem, they are to report it to the manager or mechanic to address it.
  • Groundskeepers are assigned a number of tasks according to the time of year and additional responsibilities delegated by the manager. Tasks range from landscape renovation, fertility program, ground repair, pressure washing, and mulching.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance activities to include but not limited to the support of special events, projects, conferences, and other activities hosted on the campus of Elon University.

Special Instructions to Applicants: The position is part of the Elon Emergency Response team and is required to be available to assist with preparation, throughout, and after inclement weather events. This is not limited to only inclement weather events, but all University emergency events. There is assigned evenings and weekend work from time to time.
