Position Summary

Campus Recreation provides quality recreational and educational experiences designed to positively impact the development of Elon students and contribute to the wellness of the campus community. The associate director is an essential member of the Campus Recreation professional team and provides leadership to one professional staff member, oversees management of sport programs including both club sports and intramurals. Additionally, this individual will be a key leader for a university strategic initiative to launch an elevated club sports program at Elon. Assists the director in department administration and strategic planning.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Master's degree in Higher education, student personnel, recreation, sport management, or related field with minimum 3 years of experience with the following relevant work experience: Completed master's degree in higher education, student personnel, or related field and at least 3-5 years of progressive post-master's experience in collegiate recreation or a related functional area in higher education.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree in Higher education, student personnel, recreation, sport management, or related field.

Job Duties

• Club Sports Management:
  • Oversee the administration of all club sports organizations, including participation clearance, budgets, scheduling of practices/contests, leadership development, fundraising, hazing prevention/intervention, and other club sports and student organization policies and procedures.
  • Elevate club sports by supervising strategic investments in the programs, increasing enrollment on campus through recruiting, and assist clubs with meeting fundraising goals.
  • Supervise and evaluate approximately 15-20 club sports student employees. Mentor and advise officers and leaders of 25-30 club sports with more than 1,000 participants.
  • Advise the Club Sports Council. Develop and implement policies, processes, and trainings for club sports coaches. Supervisors of student employees implement the ElonGROW (Guided Reflection on Work) model in their supervisory practices by facilitating regular guided reflection conversations that connect workplace learning with students’ broader educational and career goals, ensuring a consistent, developmental approach to student employment across the university.
• Intramural Sports and Outdoor Facilities Management:
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive intramural sports program that includes team sports, tournaments, and individual/dual sports.
  • Manage the daily operations and scheduling of recreation fields, outdoor basketball, and volleyball courts. Supervise and evaluate approximately 25 intramural sports student employees.
• Sports Programs Staff Leadership and Supervision:
  • Provide leadership to the sport programs team, which includes the development of annual goals and priorities, facilitating team meetings, and general support to staff and programs.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate a full-time professional staff member overseeing sport programs as well as part-time coaches for designated coach-led club sports teams.)
• Additional Responsibilities:
  • Support departmental strategic planning, goal setting, priority completion, evaluation and assessment, and data-driven decision making.
  • Support university events, including, but not limited to: Convocations, Commencement, Family Weekend, and events related to Admissions and/or New Student Orientation. Serve as a member of a Student Life Care and Response Team, which includes either serving in a rotational on-call emergency response role or providing initial outreach and follow-up support for student concerns. Serve on university, divisional, or departmental committees, task forces, and search committees. Other related duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Recreation.
