Position Summary

Assigned to the Department Administration and works under the direct supervision of the
Assistant Chief. The Accreditation Manager serves as the department’s primary accreditation coordinator to ensure compliance with standards for CALEA, IACLEA and any associated with future Accreditation opportunities. The Accreditation Manager is responsible for maintaining accurate accreditation records, revising, and updating departmental accreditation files as necessary. The Accreditation Manager also serves as the departmental liaison with accrediting bodies and coordinates re-accreditation on-site visits.

This position involves technical policy development and maintenance of proofs of
compliance files within the department. The Accreditation Manager is responsible, in
collaboration with the Assistant Chief, for reviewing, revising, and developing policy and
procedure to ensure accuracy, consistency and clarity in administrative policy. The
position must maintain a thorough knowledge of departmental policies and procedures,
as well as the legal aspects and compliance requirements with Accreditation standards.
This position requires work to be performed with relative independence. The job
requires interaction with all levels of the department and coordination with other campus
and community stakeholders.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED

Preferred Education and Experience

A two-year degree or higher preferred.
Prior experience in Accreditation (i.e. IACLEA, CALEA) preferred.
Some experience in organizational planning and project management, records
management and retention procedures, or compliance initiatives, or an equivalent
combination of education and experience.

 

Job Duties

  • Responsible for coordinating the Police Department's efforts toward achieving accreditation status and re-accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) and the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA). 2. Review, revise, and develop policy and procedures to help ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity in administrative policy. 3. Edit policies, procedures, and other materials for policy compliance. 4. Research sources cited in policies and procedures. 5. Assist department personnel in identifying conflicting policies and procedures to resolve conflicts and revise accordingly 6. Meet regularly with the Chief, Assistant Chief, Command, and other key personnel to identify needs and report progress on accreditation efforts. 7. Serve as liaison with appropriate accrediting bodies for all accreditation matters. 8. Serve as liaison with the University Compliance office. 9. Stay abreast of all aspects of the accreditation process, including proposed changes or amendments to the standards, assessing the impact of changes with current policies and procedures on the agency. 10. Provide related training for agency employees 11. Assign, direct, and coordinate groups of employees to achieve plans of action, recommendations to Command Staff for continued compliance with applicable accreditation standards. 12. Serve as lead and subject matter expert in pursuit of additional accreditation designations as directed by the Chief of Campus Police. 13. The employee makes recommendations to the Chief and Assistant Chief to ensure the agency is proactive and strives to meet accreditation standards.
  • Other Functions:  1. Maintains proof of compliance files within PowerDMS and provides policy management within the Lexipol policy management system. 2. Serves as a department administrator to the Lexipol policy management system. 3. Create and maintain inter-departmental communications. 4. Assist with the preparation and maintenance of accurate, up-to-date, and thorough records of inventory and locations of specified property owned by the police department. 5. Perform related work as assigned.
