Position Summary

The Office of Academic Accommodations and Accessibility (AAA) is pleased to announce a Fellowship opportunity beginning July 13, 2026. The AAA Fellow collaborates with members of the AAA team and other staff within the Koenigsberger Learning Center (KLC) to ensure students with disabilities receive appropriate accommodations and support services as required by law.

The Fellow serves a diverse student population, including undergraduate and graduate students, students in special programs, and students who need temporary accommodations. This position provides meaningful experience in disability services, case management, student advocacy, and accommodation implementation within a higher education setting. In addition, the Fellow engages in strengths-based coaching to support students in developing self-advocacy skills, executive functioning strategies, academic planning, and effective communication with faculty.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Qualified candidates must have completed their graduate degree in a related field such as special education, social work, psychology, college student personnel/development, counseling, or higher education administration, OR be in the final semester of their related graduate degree program. Demonstrated experience in/with first-year programs, program assessment, and diversity education is preferred. Candidates must be able to commit to the full 10-month appointment to begin July 13, 2026 (the first month will be dedicated to training).

Must have an interest in access and accommodations and possess outstanding communication skills (written, verbal, interpersonal). Must be able to effectively multi-task. Must possess high attention to detail and have a strong customer service orientation.

 

Job Duties

  • Accommodation Determination and Case Management:
    • Evaluate and/or assist with the evaluation of diagnostic disability documentation.
    • Coordinate, approve, and/or provide accommodations based on functional limitations for current undergraduate and graduate students with disabilities.
    • Engage in an interactive process with students and other stakeholders to determine institutional barriers and functional limitations caused by the disability in relation to the requested accommodation.
    • Coordinate timely implementation of approved accommodations.
    • Opportunity to engage in non-academic accommodations processes, committees, etc.
    • Consult with and/or advocate alongside students with faculty, staff, and administrators as necessary to ensure appropriate accommodations are made available and to ensure access to all institutional programs and services.
    • Stay apprised of national, state, and local disability legislation and issues, assisting students in understanding legal rights and responsibilities.
    • Assist with the administration and proctoring of accommodated exams.
  • Student Success Coaching:
    • Provide success coaching for a caseload of identified and referred students, and students who request success coaching.
    • Meet in one-on-one and group settings to help support students in exploring strategies for time management, organizational skills, and effective studying.
    • Identify challenges and barriers to academic success, help students devise and implement learning plans, and meet regularly with students to ensure follow-through.
    • Collaborate with staff in the Koenigsberger Learning Center (KLC) to plan programming throughout the academic year within the KLC, within Residential Neighborhoods, and with other campus partners.
    • Commit to values that enhance inclusivity and diversity within advising, coaching, programming and the administration of services within KLC and across campus.

Special Instructions to Applicants: This is a paid 10-month fellowship of $19,500. Full compensation package includes:
• On-Campus Housing provided/required in Mill Point Apartments (shared fully furnished university suite-style apartment with individual bedroom and bathroom. Utilities, internet, washer/dryer, TV streaming and parking included.)
• Access to Elon Campus Recreation Center, athletic and cultural events, and campus speakers
• Please note: Health insurance benefits are not included.
