Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Development and Donor Engagement is responsible for assisting in fundraising efforts of the Athletics Department, including but not limited to meeting specific goals associated with the department’s fundraising goals. Additionally, the position is responsible for planning, organizing, and coordinating the donor engagement and stewardship opportunities on behalf of Elon Athletics.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in any relevant field of study with Less than 1 year of experience with the following relevant work experience: 1-2 years of related event management experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master's degree in any relevant field of study preferred.

Job Duties

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate all events for the Phoenix Club and Elon Athletics to include, but not limited to: · Night of the Phoenix · Donor stewardship events · Road tailgates and pregame socials · Championship receptions · Thank-a-Thon · Sport specific alumni reunions
  • Develop and execute the Phoenix Club stewardship strategy including, but not limited to:
    • a) Coordinate and execute regular donor stewardship data pulls and acknowledgement for all donations to athletics
    • b) Execute the annual student-athlete Thank-a-thon event at the end of each fiscal year
    • c) Coordinate all stewardship related efforts outlined in the Phoenix Club membership levels matrix
    • d) Strategically develop and implement an annual plan and calendar of stewardship that elevates and impacts the Phoenix Club and Elon Athletics donor experience at all levels of giving
    • e) Execute hand-written note correspondence by donor level incorporating athletics leadership and/or coaches when appropriate, insuring timely acknowledgement of financial support provided
  • Former Student-Athlete Engagement:
    • a) Serve as the event liaison to all coaches relative to alumni engagement; work with each program to organize sport-specific alumni reunions and provide guidance, best practices and support in the area of alumni engagement for our sport programs
    • b) Work the Associate Director for the Development and the Assistant AD of Development on developing and executing an engagement and solicitation plan to reach the annual Former Student-Athlete giving participation goal
    • c) Manage and execute the event and engagement logistics of Champions/Hall of Fame Weekend in coordination with appropriate department colleagues 
  • Manage all event communications, including but not limited to:
    • a) Collaborate with Associate Director of Development to determine appropriate communication schedule, methods and populations for all events (including social media, website, email, and hard mailing)
    • b) Collaborate with colleagues in the Office of Alumni Engagement to ensure chapter presidents have relative event information 
  • Assists the Assistant AD for Development with annual fund execution and strategy development:
    • a) Ensure event activity helps move the Phoenix Club towards annual goals
    • b) Manage the Phoenix Club stewardship process, ensuring growth and expansion of efforts in growing the experience of athletics donors
    • c) Collaborate with campus colleagues and University Advancement counterparts to effectively and efficiently advance fundraising efforts of athletics
    • d) Manage portfolio of assigned and qualified prospects, cultivating and soliciting donors to achieve departmental fundraising goals and objectives, documenting fundraising activity in Raiser’s Edge as progress is made
  • Complies with all University and CAA regulations, as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University and CAA rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited.
