Position Summary

Collection of trash and recycling throughout assigned areas on campus and deposit contents in approved locations. Work closely with supervision of staff. Maintain clean and neat appearance of all outside containers as well as those collected from within resident halls. Work special events maintaining clean and sanitized trash containers.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without ‘giving out' or fatiguing during cleaning.
• The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
• Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
• Ability to communicate information to supervisors or co-workers by telephone or in person.
• Ability to operate vacuums and other related equipment.
• Must have a valid NC driver's license.

Job Duties

  • Maintain Cleanliness of Campus
    • Maintain all outside standing trash cans that are located on campus.
    • Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
    • Short list of cleaning duties are as follows: Remove all trash from assigned buildings and exterior trash cans.
    • Empty cigarette urns that are located on campus. Periodically clean all trash containers and return to their designated place.
    • Pick up trash and rubbish on grounds that are in assigned areas.
    • Assist and perform other duties as assigned including, but not limited to, snow and ice removal as required.
  • Driving a Vehicle
    • Drive Cushman trucks on campus in a safe manner to collect trash in designated areas. Must be able to back up and dump trash into dumpsters
  • Cleaning of Equipment
    • Clear trash or items in vehicles at end of every shift.
  • Reporting Maintenance Issues Found on Campus
    • Notify the proper channels with repairs needed that are observed throughout campus.
    • Report vehicle problems to shift supervisor.
  • Building Safety and Security
    • Use of wet floor signs and other safety signs when appropriate
  • Annual Training
    • Perform other duties deemed necessary by the shift supervisor.
    • Attend and utilize information provided by yearly training

Part Time Custodian Monday-Friday

The custodian position is responsible for helping maintain a clean and safe environment of all inside spaces which include Residential housing, Academic buildings, Athletic facilities, Student centers and dining locations for Elon University Campus. This includes, but not limited to, maintain and cleaning equipment, the cleaning and sanitizing of bathrooms, vacuuming floors, and removing all trash from the premises, cleaning of biohazards and high touch areas. Custodians are also responsible for monitoring special events and athletic games across campus making sure areas are clean and sanitized during events.

Fleet Mechanic II

Facilities Management
Responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and/or repair tasks in a repair shop or in the field as assigned by a Fleet Mechanic I or Automotive Supervisor. Work is of average difficulty and is performed on automotive, transit fleet vehicles, and/or special vehicles and equipment that are gasoline, diesel and/or propane powered, with varying degrees of supervision based upon aptitude and skills required.

This position is responsible for all painting and pressure washing procedures of Elon University Facilities.
