Position Summary

Carol Grotnes Belk Library at Elon University seeks a creative, collaborative individual with a genuine enthusiasm for teaching to fill the position of First-Year Experience Librarian. The person in this role will join our growing Teaching and Learning team as we develop foundational literacies and skills that prepare students to succeed in their majors, undergraduate research, and lifelong learning.

The First-Year Experience Librarian will also lead the library's engagement with campus programs that help students thrive, with a focus on transfer, first-generation, and historically underrepresented students. The FYE Librarian will serve as liaison to the Department of English and will work with a collaborative team of librarians that supports the teaching, outreach, and assessment goals of the library. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a commitment to Elon's values of Inclusive Excellence and help foster a welcoming climate within Belk Library and the Elon University community. Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • A master's degree from an ALA-accredited program in library or information science.
  • Demonstrated willingness to cultivate expertise in providing creative and innovative learning experiences in a university library.
  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully both collaboratively and independently.
  • Commitment to professional development in librarianship, professional activity, and service.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Job Duties

  • Coordinates library teaching and outreach to first-year students by working with a team that creates, delivers, and assesses information literacy initiatives supporting Elon's Core Curriculum and First-Year Foundations.
  • Collaborates with the library's new Teaching and Learning team and other library instructors to build the library curriculum and explore new instructional models and learning pathways.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to support and develop new engagement initiatives, including skill-building and community-building programming, with a focus on first-year, transfer, and first-generation students. Coordinates the library's Personal Librarian program.
  • Serves as liaison to the Department of English, providing research support and developing collections for students majoring in English and Professional Writing and Rhetoric and for the faculty scholars who teach them. Serves as liaison to the Center for Access and Success, the Center for Race, Ethnicity, and Diversity Education, and the Division of Student Life.
  • Serves as a member of a cross-functional library team, including shared responsibilities in reference and research support, teaching, assessment, collection management, and community engagement.
  • Participates in professional development, regional, statewide, and national professional associations, and University governance activities as appropriate for Staff with Faculty Rank. Engages in the broader life of the Elon University community through appropriate committee work, support of student and faculty events, and service activities.

This role will build upon a successful record of connecting with students, faculty, and staff through instruction, outreach, and individualized consultation. The Social Sciences Research Librarian will work across several social science departments to strengthen information literacy, curricular engagement, and disciplinary inquiry. This position will also contribute to Belk Library's emerging Research and Publishing team by helping develop a service portfolio that cultivates scholarship and undergraduate research, including data services, grant and publication guidance, emerging tools and technologies, open research practices, evidence synthesis, and strategies for advancing open access and the library's new institutional repository. Student Success Coach

Student Success and Retention
Student Success Coaches play a pivotal role in achieving Elon’s student retention, persistence, and graduation goals. By fostering strong interpersonal relationships and implementing data-informed interventions, Success Coaches encourage each student’s retention and persistence to graduation while enhancing each student’s holistic academic, social, and personal success. Success Coaches report directly to the Assistant Dean for Student Success and Retention while providing secondary support (and reporting) to the Executive Director of Elon’s Koenigsberger Learning Center.

Director of External Partnerships for the School of Engineering and Computing
Director of External Partnerships Working within the School of Engineering & Computing, the Director of External Partnerships (DEP) plays a critical role in enabling the growth of Elon's Engineering and Computer Science industry-sponsored programs and establishing partnerships that align value creation and learning. The DEP supports the execution of Elon’s strategic plan by creating opportunities for students to engage in impact-centered educational experiences, including the Senior Projects in Elon Engineering Design (SPEED) as well as new programs that are currently at the inception or prototype stage. The DEP’s responsibilities include the full cycle of business development, project development, and partner relationship management. Many responsibilities involve interactions with faculty, students, and staff in other areas of Elon University, as well as external constituents of various kinds (e.g., alumni, non-profit organizations, municipalities and educators at other institutions). Evening and Weekend Reference Librarian - Law

Elon University School of Law
The Elon University School of Law Library is located in Greensboro, North Carolina. The law library attempts to fully meet the educational and research needs of the Elon Law community, including students, staff, faculty, and adjuncts. The Law Library also serves as a source of legal information for the Elon Law alumni base, practicing attorneys in Greensboro, and provides limited services to the general public. The Evening and Weekend Reference Librarian – Law position is part of the law library staff of seven positions. One of the key responsibilities of this position is legal research instruction. The position requires co-teaching (and occasional individual teaching) in the library instructional program along with three other librarians, including the library director. In collaboration with the Acquisitions & Electronic Resources Librarian, this position oversees the library’s Federal Depository Program. Although infrequent, travel to and from Elon University’s central campus and Charlotte campus may be needed. All required travel and most travel for professional development is supported by the law library.
