Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Student Conduct supports Elon University’s honor system and the educational initiatives and daily operations of the Office of Student Conduct by assisting with the development, implementation, and assessment of processes, programs, and services to support individual student well-being and development while balancing the safety and needs of the university community. The Assistant Director serves as an administrative hearing officer and investigator for social policy violations involving complex or serious dynamics, conducting thorough investigations and compiling comprehensive reports. This position serves as a student conduct case manager by coordinating adjudication and maintenance of social policy cases for the university.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required. Completed bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of experience in higher education required.

Preferred Education and Experience

Completed master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling, or related field strongly preferred. Completed master’s degree in higher education, student personnel, counseling, or related field and 1-2 years of experience (including graduate assistantships/apprenticeships) in student conduct or a related functional area in higher education strongly preferred.

Job Duties

  • Administrative Hearing Officer - Receive and resolve reports of alleged student and/or student organization misconduct - Serves as a student conduct case manager by coordinating adjudication and maintenance of social policy cases for the university - Conduct thorough investigations and compiling comprehensive reports - Developing and implementing educational programs around the Honor Code and ethical development - Assisting with training of professional staff and hearing boards on student conduct philosophy, policies, protocols, and practice - Managing case through Maxient conduct software
  • Education, Outreach, Restorative Initiatives - Conduct Educational Conversations when appropriate - Research and develop best practices in student organization and individual conduct educational sanctions, with a focus on restorative justice - Develop and update educational materials, Including guides, presentations, and the Office of Student Conduct website - Attend and represent the Office of Student Conduct on campus and community professional committees as appropriate. - Help provide educational outreach programs to the University community regarding but not limited to conflict resolution, the Campus Student Code and conduct process, civility ethics, integrity, and other relevant and timely topics related to the Office of Student Conduct 
  • Assessment and Reporting - Assist in coordinating, planning, and implementing the assessment and evaluation plan for the Office of Student Conduct Implement operational and learning outcome assessment projects - Organize and generate reports of assessment measures and make recommendations to the Director of Student Conduct - Promotes Internal and external communication of assessment results - Regularly develop reports which demonstrate policy violations and educational outcomes which are involved in adjudication of conduct issues
  • Additional Responsibilities - Support departmental strategic planning, goal setting, priority completion, evaluation and assessment, and data-driven decision making - Provide departmental leadership in the absence of the director - Support university events, including, but not limited to: Convocations, - Commencement, Family Weekend, and events related to Admissions and/or New Student Orientation - Serve as a member of a Student Life Care and Response Team, which includes either serving in a rotational on-call emergency response role or providing initial outreach and follow-up support for student concerns - Serve on university, divisional, or departmental committees, task forces, and search committees - Other related duties as assigned by Director of Student Conduct
