Assistant Teaching Professor in Sport Management

Department of Sport Management | School of Communications | Fall 2027

Position Summary

The Department of Sport Management in Elon University’s School of Communications invites applications for a full-time Assistant Teaching Professor in Sport Management beginning the fall 2027 semester. This renewable, non-tenure-track position is eligible for promotion through the teaching professor ranks in accordance with university policy. The position is based on Elon’s campus in Elon, North Carolina, and requires regular on-campus presence.

The successful candidate will teach seven undergraduate sport management courses per academic year, typically in a 3-1-3 distribution: three courses in the fall semester, one during Winter Term (a month-long academic term in January), and three in the spring semester. Classes are held in person, either M-W-F for 70 minutes or Tu-Th or M-W for 100 minutes. Additional responsibilities include advising and mentoring undergraduate majors and/or student organizations, providing professional service to the department, school and university, and contributing actively to the life of the institution. As a teacher-scholar-mentor, the successful candidate will place excellent teaching, meaningful student relationships, and engaged learning at the center of their work.

Teaching may include Contemporary Sport Management, Sport Data and Research, Sport Marketing, Sport Law, Sport Media, Sport Finance, Event and Venue Management, and courses in the Elon Core Curriculum. Other elective courses can be taught and developed. Candidates who have experience working with a diverse range of people, and who can contribute to the climate of inclusivity are encouraged to identify their experiences in their cover letter.

Minimum Qualifications

A master’s degree in Sport Management or another advanced degree in a closely related field by the date of appointment.

The ability to teach undergraduate sport management courses.

Preferred Qualifications

An earned doctorate in Sport Management or a closely related field.

Evidence of high-quality teaching and professional development at the college level.

Professional experience in the sport industry.
