Position Summary

The Assistant Director will provide leadership to the growth, development, and maintenance of the It Takes a Village Project, a district-wide tutoring initiative spearheaded by the Center for Access and Success. The Assistant Director works with Elon tutors, Alamance County teachers and principals to improve the academic attainment of elementary grade students in the 12 Title I schools from surrounding Alamance County communities. Additional areas of focus and responsibilities include Start Early in Medicine, Music in the Village and The Little Village.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Bachelors Degree required, Master's preferred.

Preferred Education and Experience

Working closely with community partners, local schools, parents, and students in PreK-5th grade; documented experience in working effectively as part of a team. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

Job Duties

  • Recruitment of Elon tutors during spring and fall semesters, and coordination of protection of minor training and background checks of tutors. ·
  • Market program through social media efforts, websites, brochures.
  • Management and day-to-day operation of the Village Project and Summer Village; maintenance of accurate budget requests and paperwork, purchase of supplies, travel to Village sites, and working with ABSS to coordinate bus transportation and meal deliveries.
  • Assist with faculty collaborators in the administration of the Start Early in Medicine middle school/high school Village initiative and Music in the Village Program.
  • Recruitment of teachers and other volunteers for the “It Takes a Village” Project and Summer in the Village. 
  • Establish an advisory committee made up of teachers, campus partners, and community leaders to gain perspectives and develop recommendations for growth.
  • Handle Stipends for teachers and liaisons at each school, and within the Village subset programs. · Work with teachers to evaluate the Village Program, providing impact data, youth served, and academic achievement. 
  • Plan and implement a 2-week summer program for Village participants. 
  • Purchase supplies and materials to support the Village Project. 
  • Create communication systems to ensure efficiency among schools. 
  • Supervise the AMERI Corps Vista member. 
  • Supervise student interns and students.
  • Consistently update Executive Director of the Center to allow for maintenance of grant obligations. 
  • Collaborate with community and campus partners to create a holistic support network for students.
  • Serve as Co-Director for the Examining Education (Village Project) Learning Living Community (LLC).
