Position Summary

We are excited to welcome a new leader to the SPDC team in a role dedicated to business students within the Love School of Business at Elon University. This is a hands-on role working with students leading a dynamic team of four individuals committed to best practices within the career services space.

As Senior Associate Director of Career Services for the Love School of Business Services, you will have the opportunity to create a strategic vision for the team in developing and expanding upon efforts to support career services access for all LSB students and contribute to the strategic direction of the Student Professional Development Center’s work within Elon’s Love School of Business.
The Student Professional Development Center reports through the Senior Vice President for Advancement and External Affairs to the President's Office. The Senior Associate Director of Career Services, Love School of Business reports to the Assistant Vice President of the Student Professional Development Center.
The Senior Associate Director of Career Services for the Love School of Business serves as a member of the Student Professional Development Center leadership team. This position is responsible for programming and serves as a partnership lead with the Love School of Business, building relationships with the dean, associate dean, department chairs, faculty, and staff to create and support career development partnerships and programs. This position also serves as a career advisor within the Love School of Business, providing professional development support to undergraduate students, graduate students, and recent alumni through 1:1 appointments, drop-in meetings, classroom presentations and workshops. The Senior Associate Director of Career Services for the Love School of Business also supervises professional full-time staff.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Master's degree in MBA, higher education, counseling, or a degree related to the majors that the staff will be advising with more than 8 years of experience with the following relevant work experience: Experience in higher education/career services is required. Experience in business is preferred but not required. Comfort presenting to large audiences and relaying information in a 1:1 setting. Clear communication and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment preferred.

Job Duties

  • CAREER ADVISING: Meet one-on-one with undergraduate and graduate students and alumni to provide career advising in the Love School of Business; seek student engagement opportunities to encourage career conversations and support for students. Provide leadership in the support of the professional development of 2,000 Love School of Business Students and students within the Love School of Business graduate programs. Create unique checklists and professional engagement opportunities and advising for special populations: Business Fellows, International Business Dual Degree students and 3+1 candidates.
  • TEACHING AND PROGRAMMING: Develop and deliver high quality and timely content/programs/events/workshops and resources, including classroom and student organization presentations designed to help Business students and alumni with exploring majors/careers, networking and building connections with alumni, and conducting an effective internship or full-time job search. Oversee Porter Center website content and resources. Assist with on-campus recruiting and employer events throughout the year (3-5 each semester). Support the teaching of professional development into the curriculum through the Gateway to Business course, which includes classroom presentations, and the grading of three assignments. Provide leadership to the SPDC satellite office that executes the largest number of career programs, events and student engagement opportunities for students.
  • LEADERSHIP: Serve as the Student Professional Development Center programming and partnership lead for the Love School of Business; serve on LSB, SPDC, and campus wide committees as requested. Build and maintain relationships with the Love School of Business dean, associate dean, department chairs, faculty, and staff to create and support career development partnerships and programs. Provide strategic leadership for the Porter Family Professional Development Center, assuring that LSB students are market ready. 
  • SUPERVISION & TRAINING: Supervise, develop, and support Love School of Business career advisor, collaborate with 3 team members including Corporate & Employer Relations and LSB Director of Internships. Provide direction and support as needed to graduate apprentice. Responsible for hiring and on boarding of new Porter Family Professional Development Center staff.
