Position Summary

As a member of the Division of Student Life and the Student Involvement team, the Associate Director of Student Involvement leads efforts to engage students in meaningful campus involvement. This position supports student success by mentoring and coaching them through the development of rich relationships. This associate director works directly with student leaders and collaborates with others across the university to provide community and leadership development opportunities that enhance the student experience and advance the department’s strategic plans. As a leader within the Student Involvement team, the associate director is responsible for serving as an active member of the staff in presence and in communication, maintaining a high level of professionalism, and completing various administrative tasks that support the daily operations of the department.



This Associate Director serves as a visionary leader and provides strategic direction and leadership for the fraternity/sorority community in relationship to the broader campus community. Working alongside the department’s other Associate Director for student organization support, this position serves as the primary contact for the fraternity and sorority community, which includes 2,500+ students, 30 chapters, and four student governing councils. They act as a key resource, streamlining communication between the university, chapter members, advisors, and national organizations to ensure alignment with institutional policies, foster collaboration, and enhance the overall success of the fraternity and sorority experience. The Associate Director is responsible for leading the department’s risk management efforts for student organizations and supporting student leaders through the student organization conduct process. This position provides collaborative support in the development of diverse programs that enhance student life and works with students and staff to actively encourage meaningful student involvement and engagement opportunities at Elon.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Master’s degree in higher education, college student personnel, counseling, or related field

Preferred Education and Experience

Preference will be given to candidates with at least 3-5 years of progressive post-master’s experience working with fraternities and sororities, student organizations, student activities, and/or leadership development, as well as experience advising students from a variety of cultural and ethnic backgrounds

Affiliation with an inter/national sorority or fraternity preferred, but not required

 

Job Duties

  • FRATERNITY AND SORORITY COMMUNITY Provide department leadership in the shared advising of organization leaders to provide mentoring and coaching through rich relationships Oversee the development of systems and communication strategies for supporting the fraternity/sorority community, including chapter leadership, organization advisors, university stakeholders, and inter/national headquarters staff Provide strategic direction for programs and services that foster relationship-building and a sense of community among the fraternity/sorority community Support staff in their advisement and work with the fraternity/sorority community governing councils (Interfraternity Council, Multicultural Greek Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Panhellenic Association) that empower students to take ownership of their community and experiences Provide oversight of membership recruitment, new member and intake processes, and educational programs surrounding recruitment and/or intake Manage the Standards of Excellence chapter evaluation program, coordinating collection, review, and reporting of annual assessment data for chapter development Utilize data, Standards of Excellence evaluations, and feedback from student leaders to inform the mentoring, educational, and programmatic offerings for the fraternity and sorority community Conduct assessment and benchmarking on issues relevant to fraternal organizations and student development Serve as primary liaison with Health Promotion in support of health and wellness education and training opportunities for student leaders Serve as advisor to Order of Omega Greek honorary society Lead expansion and extension efforts for recognizing new fraternities and sororities Coordinate education/training pertaining to risk management and specific topics relevant to the community including hazing prevention, bystander intervention, alcohol education, gender-based violence prevention, etc. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Involvement (IFC/NPHC) Supervision of the Assistant Director of Student Involvement (MGC/PA) 
  • STUDENT INVOLVEMENT Serve as an active member of the Student Involvement staff, contribute to a relationship-rich environment that fosters student growth and success, and support broader department programs and events (i.e. new student orientation, fall/spring organization fairs, student tailgating, formal recruitment and intake processes, and Homecoming) Serve as primary liaison to the Office of Student Conduct for all student organization conduct matters, working in partnership to support organization leaders and community development Work in partnership with Residence Life in support of the residents living in the Loy Center Neighborhood (fraternity and sorority housing) Develop and maintain supportive campus partnerships with colleagues and university departments Provide advisement in maintaining and updating university and student organization policies and procedures in collaboration with university partners Align assessment and reporting mechanisms with the improvement and strategic planning of the department, division, and university Positively represent Student Involvement, the Division of Student Life, and Elon University in all communications, presentations, and campus involvement Assist when necessary, with implementation of events and programs, including contract negotiation, review, and execution Meet with the Director of Student Involvement on a regular basis, actively participate in team meetings, and assume additional responsibilities within the scope of the position as assigned by the director
  • DIVISION OF STUDENT LIFE Support departmental strategic planning, goal setting, priority completion, evaluation and assessment, and data-driven decision making Provide departmental leadership in the absence of the director Support university events, including, but not limited to: Convocations, Commencement, Family Weekend, Homecoming, and events related to Admissions and/or New Student Orientation Serve as a member of a Student Life Care and Response Team, which includes either serving in a rotational on-call emergency response role or providing initial outreach and follow-up support for student concerns Serve on university, divisional, or departmental committees, task forces, and search committees Other related duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean / Director
